LINK INternship: Melissa youssef for city council
For my internship, I had the pleasure of interning for Melissa Youssef for City Council. In the months of her campaigning, I took part in putting together advertisements that were spread across Durango. I also helped out with many of her social events by keeping track of everyone there and getting their contact information for Melissa’s campaign.

Reflection
As I reflect back on the wonderful experience I now have under my belt, I’m proud to say that I’ve learned a lot not only about the internship but also about myself. In terms of strengths, I discovered that I work well with reaching out to people. There were many instances where I was out of my comfort zone whether it be knocking on doors or asking random people to be a part of Melissa’s contact list, I learned how to be comfortable being uncomfortable and how to convince people to support. I’m also proud that Melissa achieved city council and I consider that an accomplishment because I helped a lot with the small stuff that in return made a big impact. As far as challenges went, I mainly struggled with working the 90 hours into my busy schedule because I didn’t get time off of school to complete it. However, I had many opportunities that I worked out huge chunks of time that eventually added up. I grew as an individual because I became introduced to the extreme process that comes with campaigning and the role that the whole community has on an election. I feel that I now have a clearer idea of how politics work and I feel more confident when listening to the news or other political instances. Moving forward, I plan to expand my education in terms of political science and I hope to possibly achieve a career in the field. Luckily, there is a pretty good program for this at the University that I’m attending so I’m pumped to begin that chapter of my life.
