Model United nations
The Model UN was a project for 9th grade humanities. In this project we explored how the United Nations works and the way the conferences lay out. From this project, I have gained certain skills necessary for thriving at Animas High School and beyond this school. Those skills include public speaking, perseverance, and research. Also, during this project we learned lots of new vocabulary which I find to be helpful. Overall, this project was a model of what the United Nations looks like. Each student (besides two) were given a country. From then on we were assigned different topics and were expected to research our country's view on the conflicts.
Reflection:
1. If another student had asked me why the MUN is important, I would have many reasons as to why it is. The MUN replicates a real life occurrence. The United Nations is an important part of the world as a whole because it’s main strive is for world peace and without them the world would be a lot different. Now that we are learning this, it’s a lot easier to understand the conflicts that our world displays. I’ve learned so much more vocabulary than before and I think that’s very important.
2. During this conference, the HOHAM I exemplified best which I am most proud of is my evidence. We were expected to get up in front of everyone and give a speech about our country’s perspective on the issue. In my opinion, I had lots of evidence as to why my country thinks the way they do and why our point of view is the most logical. Although some agreed and some disagreed, I believe that I put up a good fight and used lot’s of evidence.
3. The greatest challenge I faced in this project was the work load. I wasn’t expecting there to be so much work in 9 whole weeks. On top of that, I missed around a week of school which made it incredibly difficult to catch up with all of the proper requirements necessary. Overall, I think I did well on this project considering the time I missed.
4. The most interesting speech to me, was by Risa Holmes. Not for the content but how she spoke it. Risa was loud and precise with all of her words. It left a big impact on the audience because of it’s confidence that it displayed. I think that the delivery of the speech is as important as the content and Risa did a great job with using both.
